Maybe this weight was a gift.

Long time, no entry! I've been super busy - starting back up with my January term and commuting to NYC has been tough, but I definitely prefer (short term) commuting so that I can see my family during what should be my break.

A few weeks ago we drove through Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, and West Point Island - which had all been hit pretty badly by Hurricane Sandy. Above is Zach's grandma's house, isn't it gorgeous! Luckily, it wasn't affected at all by the storm.

On the left is Luke's kitten Luna, who I find myself playing with every time we go over his house now. On the right is the Ocean Gate boardwalk, the town next to mine, looking all wobbly and disfigured. I was surprised that after the hurricane a lot of the boardwalk was still standing, although much of it was lumpy-looking. The houses there seemed like they stood up alright, but it was pretty sad walking all around trying to find a flat area of boardwalk, when I used to walk there all the time with my mom.

For New Year's Eve, Zach, Luke, Jayne and I went to NYC together - we were hoping to hit up some bars and then have my apartment to crash at. We didn't bother to go up to see the ball drop because it is super duper crowded up there. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that many places would have an expensive cover charge, so we only ended up going to one bar and then to Zach's friends apartment in Brooklyn, where he was having a party (which was still fun)!

Before we went out we were pre-gaming with Jayne's bottle of Kinky Liquor she got for Christmas, in chocolate shot glasses Zach got as a Christmas gift from work.

Apparently, I was the only one who got drunk at the bar...

Shots of tequila!

They had a few jam sessions at Zach's friend Ciro's house in Brooklyn, and I tried to use his fish-eye lens over my iPhone camera. It half worked, half didn't. The pictures still came out cool looking though, I'd say :)

Last weekend, the four of us went down to Atlantic City to gamble and have dinner and get free drinks :) We went to the new casino Revel, and some restaurant outside of it (Oyster House? Something like that, I can't figure out the name of it, though) where my Caesar salad was one of the least expensive items on the menu - at $9 - but was delicious. I do want to try their Pomme Frites, though, if we ever go back there. Revel was a really nice, fancy casino. I didn't win anything there, but Jayne pretty much evened out by the end of the night.

On my last post I posted some photos of NYE last year, so I'll post something else from that same role of film from this time last year.

I can't believe this was a year ago! Ironically, we were all hanging out in Seaside. We can't even really go on the boardwalk there, still, today (since Sandy). It's a bitter sweet photo. And look at all that hair on Zach's head! I know it's blurry, I still have problems focusing my Konica sometimes, haha. Oops :)

Christmas Gifts

So this is a little belated but here are some photos of the Christmas gifts Zach and I exchanged this year. Although I loved all of the gifts that Zach got me, this necklace was probably my overall favorite. It's a miniature terrarium inside of a little jar! When I opened it I couldn't believe it, I've never seen anything like it before!

Mind the weird chest-shot, I was so excited when I got it, I put it on immediately and took a picture. And on the left is the amazing little description given with the necklace - "you have received a "You are my World" miniature terrarium pendant. A tiny green world in a miniature bottle." Love it!

Zach also got me a lovely print of a hedgehog on a vintage dictionary page, and a lovely coat from Target that I've been wanting for a long time now.

On the left is a photo of us in our touch-screen gloves. I got Zach's pair (orange) at Urban Outfitters, and mine at Target. On the right is a print that Zach bought for himself that comes from the same set as the one he bought for me. I love the bicycle man on this one.

Another gift I got Zach was Lana Del Rey's CD on Vinyl (partially because I was dying to hear it on vinyl) and partially because he's become about as obsessed with her as I am over the last few weeks. Needless to say, her songs sound great on a record player, but I was disappointed that "Without You" wasn't on the record :(

I also got Zach a hat, some cool shot glasses, and an anchor bracelet for Christmas. I wasn't sure if he would like the bracelet or think it was girly or anything, but it turns out he loves it and has been wearing it ever since he got it! :)

Here is a photo of me, my mom, and Daisy on Christmas.

It's funny, when I was little I started to develop this strange anxiety about getting fewer and fewer presents each year for Christmas as I got older, because all of the adults I knew barely got any gifts! But as I keep growing older I've noticed that the gifts really don't matter to me anymore. Sure, I did get some nice gifts this year, but it's the people you get to spend your holiday season with that really matter most. That's why I'm so excited to be able to commute for my January Term class for the next three weeks. My wonderful parents, boyfriend, and best friends are what matter most to me and I am beyond happy to be able to spend time with them during the holiday season.

p.s. look at these photos of me and my cousin!

Us in the center, from Christmas this year...

And a photo of us from last Christmas, it's funny to see how much we've both changed.
